Competition Golf

At Skelmorlie we recognise that many golfers want competitive golf to test and challenge their skills.  The club therefore runs many competitions throughout the year, including the winter, to satisfy this demand.  Whether you are a male, female, boy or girl, there are organised competitions available to test your ability.  There are also some open competitions that allow visitors to play our course and challenge their club handicaps.

We also have a thriving Mixed golf section that is arguably the best in the area.  The Friendly Mixed takes place every third Sunday and is a great way to meet friends and have an enjoyable round of golf. For the new 2016 golf season the club will provide a Master Scoreboard leader board online as part of it competition results service, along with a new email notifications service to those members who have subscribed.  In the future, the club is planning to look at the options for having a clubhouse leader board via a television screen bringing live competition results directly into the clubhouse lounge area.  However, this option is still being considered and when there is a change to implement this feature we will advise the details on this web page on when and how it is likely to occur.

9 Hole Golf – New Handicap Valid Competition Format For All

Skelmorlie Golf Club offers Scottish Golf  approved 9 Hole Medals’ with something to offer golfers of all standards in a shorter timescale. Two 9 hole courses have been rated by Scottish Golf and are ideal for obtaining and maintaining a handicap. This handicap can be used as normal in Skelmorlie’s 18-hole stroke play competitions and those at other courses.  The intention is to play the 9 hole competitions on a Sunday and mid-week on a Wednesday.

The format is a Stableford Points system. One course will be over 9 holes from the yellow tees. This is set up over 9 of the flattest holes on the course and is ideal for beginners, those who wish some gentle exercise in the open air with a purpose and those wishing to build up some confidence before moving up a level.

The second 9 holes are set up over the white medal tees and are slightly more challenging. Ideal for those who have played before and would like to come back to golf and those of you who are short on time due to other commitments, but wish to play competition golf and maintain or get a handicap.  Competitions are open to both male and female golfers and to all age ranges, simply arrange your grouping (max 4 players).

This is golf offered in a new less time consuming format, yet keeping alive the cut and thrust of medal play in a handicap competition. Come and join us at Skelmorlie Golf Club in this new and exciting approach to handicap golf.
