CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2017
As we head into September and the promise of our Indian Summer (!!) now is the time to make the most of the golf course before the clocks change.
We have a busy month ahead and would ask for as much support as possible.
VISITING PARTY – Ardgowan Football Development
This Friday the 1st of September we welcome the coaches and friends of local junior football development group – Ardgowan. This is an annual event and we thank the guys for all their support. At the time of writing there are 68 in the party and they are starting from two tees – the 1st and the 6th at 11.30am.
Would members please be aware of this and plan their morning accordingly – the course is going to be very busy.
The Jamie O’Neill Day
Skelmorlie Golf Club would just like to thank everyone who came along to support and participate in this annual event, as always a fantastic turnout. We hope you all enjoyed your day and appreciate you hosting it at Skelmorlie Golf Club – Thank you.
Silent Auction & Afternoon Tea
The Ladies section will once again be running their popular silent auction on behalf of club funds. This will be held on Saturday the 2nd of September and will be set up in time for the gents to have a look at the items following their morning round. The Afternoon Tea will be available from 3pm and is open to all. Tickets are still available behind the bar and cost £2 each. Worth having a clear out and donating the odd item to the club. All sorts accepted – old golf gear, new or nearly new clothing, pictures, bags, jewellery, books etc. Please speak to Lady Captains – Marel and Alison for more details. We also have a few two balls / four balls available for different clubs so well worth a look at what is on offer.
The Seniors open is Thursday 7th of September followed shortly after by the Ladies Open on Sunday the 10th of September. Please invite your friends and get your entries in asap. Still spaces available. Online entry or printable entry forms available on the website. Gents open draw will be done this weekend.
Game Three still running and the Joker jackpot has now reached a very respectable £275. This is an excellent fundraiser for the club and well worth a £1 for a go.
Congratulations to our latest £100 winner Mr George Reikie. Still time to get in on the action and purchase a number for the remaining draws. Cost is now £12 to enter for the remaining months.
9 hole medals
They are a great way for an even more sociable game as they are open to all categories playing together – men, women and juniors and are an ideal way to either gain your handicap or retain it. As the fixture list is very busy this coming month we are just running one 9 hole medal on Wednesday the 20th of September. This will be “The Front Nine“ course. The next Sunday 9 hole medal will run on the 1st of October and will be over the “Flat Nine” course.
Stocks are low – donations are urgently required. Please pass to a member of the social committee or leave behind the bar – thank you if you can help with a prize.
Saturday the 16th of September. The sheet will shortly be going up on the notice board in the foyer. Get your names up early as this event is always oversubscribed.
Sunday the 24th September – a fun day with a serious message. This year we will be once again supporting Breast Cancer Now and we look forward to your support – get these pink clothes and wigs looked out. Details will be on the noticeboard.
Future Social Events
Saturday the 23rd Sept – Irish Storytelling/Singer & Magician – TICKETS ON SALE NOW COST £8 EACH
Saturday the 28th October – Halloween Party
Saturday the 25th November – St Andrews Night
Online Visitor Booking
We now offer an online service to potential golfing visitors to SGC where they can book a golf tee off time online at either GolfNow or Teeofftimes – this is a new facility we are trying, to help us to encourage more visitors to come and play the course. How this service develops will very much depend on the demand we see from it, but we will update on the usage and future plans in later newsletters.
Waste Collection Service
At the request of North Ayrshire Council we have now upgraded our waste collection to the correct commercial level, as you may notice this has resulted in larger bins collected slightly less frequently. In order to maintain the proper standards the bin shelter now only contains a blue recycling bin, a black general waste bin and a smaller brown food bin, if using one of those bins please ensure that you put the material in the correct one. A range of bins will still exist in the clubhouse of course.
I Look forward to seeing you at the club.
