” I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a junior at Skelmorlie and have seen my handicap drop to single figures with the help and encouragement of the adult volunteers. ”

Junior Club Champion - 2015

The juniors have some great competitions during the season, actually a total of 41 different competitions are available across the various age ranges.

The season culminates in the wonderful Ken MacLeod sponsored day for the juniors, which is always a great fun event with lots of prizes on offer.  Finally, before the season ends, the juniors like all other sections, have their own prize giving ceremony, an opportunity to recognise and reward the efforts and achievements of the junior section, everyone is of course welcome to attend.

Skelmorlie Golf Club is fortunate to have an enthusiastic and ever popular junior section.  Over the years it has seen a number of its junior golfers both male and female progress into the adult ranks and do very well, with a number of them achieving some great results, including the winning of the SGC scratch Club Championship among them.

The popularity of the juniors is certainly down to the effort and encouragement of the junior convenor and the team of adults who give up so much of their time to work with the younger ones, both in basic coaching and in organising the many and varied competitions available to the juniors.

The juniors have, during the golf season, a Monday evening when the use of the course is prioritised for them, and they get to experience the fun of some competitive but fun golf round the course.  This tends to be a popular evening and is well attended by most juniors and even some of the parents who take the chance to accompany these young golfers and enjoy their efforts.

A number of the Monday sessions of the golf season are dedicated to providing, at a relatively small cost, more formal golf coaching with a local PGA pro – Graham Ross – who brings his skilful teaching methods to help provide the juniors with great opportunities for individual improvement.

If your child is interested in coming along and joining the Monday evening session and become a junior member of the club please contact the club or simply turn up on a Monday evening.  Please be aware that children under the age of 10 will need to be accompanied by a parent or suitable adult.  Children should attend with their own golf clubs if at all possible.  The cost to be a junior member at SGC is £45 for the year.
