The New Golfing Year

A very Happy New Year to you all, from myself and the committee.

As always it has not been the greatest weather over the festive season but I have just checked and the BBC are forecasting some dry days ahead, so you never know it might be a chance to try out all these golfing Christmas presents you are sure to have received. We can but hope that they have the forecast correct for a change!

Anyway, having completed our first year as a committee we are all pleased with the progress that has been made but know that we cannot afford to sit back and rest. As a membership we all need to play our part in securing the future of the club. We would encourage everyone to try and play a small part in this – whether it be word of mouth or the use of social media in all its forms, it takes two minutes to recommend the club to family and friends and we may gain some much needed new members in this way.

There are many ways that you can show your support from attending our social events or taking part in our fund raising initiatives like the Joker, raffles, 200 club etc. All these are only possible with your participation and be assured they are helping to keep the club running.

We look forward to 2018 being a turning point for our wee club but we can only do it with your help.

New Members Incentive

In light of the important need to grow our membership income, effective today we are introducing a new incentive scheme to encourage existing members to attract new ones. For this year, for every new Ordinary, Senior or Twenties2 member you introduce to the club you will receive a £50 cash reward for yourself. There is no limit to the number of new members you can introduce so the more new members you introduce, the more you are rewarded. Correspondingly, if the new member falls into one of the lower fee paying categories i.e. Twenties 1, Intermediate, Student or Country the reward payment will be £25. These payments will be made when the membership subscription fee has been paid by the new member. Whilst new junior and social members will not be part of this scheme, we would still encourage you to try to introduce new members in these categories too.

Trophies Returned

Could all trophies be returned to the clubhouse as soon as possible to arrange engraving for the prize giving in March.

Competitions Fixture List

The 2018 list is currently being worked on and will be available shortly.

Joker update

Game 4 is well underway and the Joker jackpot has now reached £250. This is an excellent fundraiser for the club and well worth the £1 for a go.

200 Club Fundraiser

Congratulations to our latest winner Frank Sime. As this was the Christmas draw Frank wins £200. There are only two draws left in this session and the next session starts in March. Forms to renew and for new joiners will be issued with your membership subscription notifications within the next couple of weeks.

Raffle Prizes

Stocks are low – donations are urgently required. Please pass to a member of the social committee or leave behind the bar.

Social Evening

Tickets are now available behind the bar for the Burns Supper to be held on Saturday the 17th of February. These are sure to sell out quickly so please get your name down with Trisha if you would like to come.

Games Nights

The Wednesday night Games Nights are running every two weeks with the first one of 2018 on Wednesday the 10th of January. The bar is open from 7-10pm and we have a number of games – Table Tennis, Carpet Bowls, Darts, Putting and Quoits. Why not pop along and join in the fun – all welcome.

Clubhouse Use

Having a special birthday or event this year? Why not consider having it in the clubhouse? Our rates are very competitive with other local venues and we are now taking bookings for this year. We can take 80 people and can organise catering if required or you can organize your own. Please speak to Trisha or a member of the committee for more details.

Finally, as Jane mentioned at the AGM, although the fees are not due until February, we would appreciate early payment if at all possible. The club’s bank details are available on request or payment can be made via the card machine in the bar.

I Look forward to seeing you all at the club and all the best for 2018.

Best wishes
