The recent SGC – EGM outlined a number of ways by which the club’s income could be increased. There is another opportunity which can be used to create some additional funds.
I am sure quite a lot of our members use online shopping. If so, there is a way which they can create income for the club from what they purchase. If you create an account on the website www.easyfundraising.co.uk and link it to the cause Skelmorlie Golf Club, then this opens the way for donations to be made to the club by those companies from which you buy online.
There are literally hundreds of companies which are part of this but the area where significant income can be generated is travel. Let me give you a couple of examples. When we went to New Zealand last year, I booked all our flights, hotels and car hire and as a result raised around £120 for the club. This year we are going to Stockholm for4 nights and our hotel accommodation has raised £22 for the club. This shows what can be done. Companies like Expedia, Hotels.com and so forth typically give from 3% to 5% on a transaction. Even BA and Flybe give something although EasyJet and Ryanair don’t. But as I say there are hundreds of participating companies as you can see on the Easyfundraising website.
The key point about this is that it does not add a penny to what you pay and it all happens behind the scenes. There are two ways of doing this. You can either click through to your desired company from the Easyfundraising site (you need to do this with Amazon) or better still, download the Donation Reminder app (and raise 50p) and then every time you log on to a participating site, you just click Accept on the toolbar that appears at the top of the site. After that, there is nothing else to do.
