Members Introductory Information

The Skelmorlie Golf Club constitution shown above has been reviewed by the  Management Committee in December 2017 in line with the current guidelines from SportScotland to create a new version to support funding requests to SportScotland and indeed other types of grant providing bodies.  This constitution was approved by the members at the 2017 Club AGM on December 7th 2017

This new constitution has separated some of the elements that made up the previous constitution document, creating a new and separate club rules document.

In the text below we summarise the main changes that have been made.  We do recommend that you view the new constitution in full.

The document is laid out differently to the previous constitution structure, but is as per the SportScotland template that was provided via Scottish Golf, to fit with what is currently recommended by SportScotland.  The committee would like to draw members attention to a few of the changes that have been made to the constitution and that the committee feel that members should have full awareness of.

  1. That an EGM can be called at the request of 33% of the Club membership.

  2. The existing Bye Laws or Rules are moved to a ‘Club Rules’ document managed directly by the Club Management Committee as required.

  3. That all Committee posts are available to all voting adult members irrespective of gender.  (Are no gender specific committee posts)

  4. A defined appeals process.

  5. The Club is affiliated to Golfs National Governing Body in Scotland.

  6. Membership Applications are not proposed or seconded and prospective member details are processed directly by the Club Secretary.

  7. Club membership is open to all and that there is a full ‘ No Discrimination ‘ clause included in the constitution.

  8. There is a clearly stated understanding of the club’s responsibility as a ‘ Not For Profit ‘ organisation both annually and in the event the club is ever dissolved

  9. The constitution appendices clarifies membership categories, the committee structure, post descriptions, sub committees, and meetings.

A SportScotland representative has considered our new constitution prior to the 2017 AGM and raised no objections with any of the content as laid out.
