CAPTAIN’S NEWSLETTER APRIL 2017
The clocks have changed and for a brief weekend it looked like Summer, never mind Spring, was here. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come and we can all get out on the course a bit more. Sid and Wallace our greenkeepers have been out cutting the greens and the course is looking good.
Entries to all annual matchplay competitions are now officially closed. The Ladies draw sheets are up in their locker room and Sandy is working on the Gents and Mixed and this will be available shortly.
Given that it is early in the golfing season preferred lies will be continuing until the 30th April or unless advised otherwise.
TEXAS SCRAMBLE & PRIZE GIVING
Despite the poor weather the Texas scramble & Prize Giving was well attended and enjoyed by all those who took part. The Texas Scramble was won with 52.75 by Elspeth Howie, John R Anderson, Sandy Fielding and Eric Linn. Again, congratulations to all those who received their prizes for last season.
There is still time to enter this and purchase a number for 2017. Congratulations to
Mr Andrew Fergus who is our first £100 winner for this year. To enter and have the chance to win £100 per month, and £200 in December please complete the entry forms, available in the clubhouse. Next draw is the 29th of April.
The clubhouse has been busy this month with the Ladies Winter Dinner, the local Primary School mothers & toddlers group running a very successful 80’s night and then our own sold out Social Event with Lynnie Carson.
If you are looking for a venue for a private party, charity night, first communion, christening etc. Come and talk to us. All types of events catered for.
Welcome to Christina and Emma who have now commenced their new roles working from time to time behind the bar at the clubhouse, please extend a warm welcome to them once you meet them.
25th MARCH – SOCIAL EVENING – LYNNIE CARSON
This was an excellent evening and Lynnie had the whole clubhouse singing along with her repertoire which catered for all tastes. We hope to get her back again later in the year – not to be missed.
29th APRIL – SOCIAL EVENING – “PDQ” – A Pie, A Drink & A Quiz
This promises to be another good evening with our own Chris Tarrant (Mick Dorrian) in charge of the Quiz. Add in a McCaskie’s pie and a drink and what more could you want. Tickets are on sale behind the bar. These will sell out again soon so buy them asap.
Tommy is still looking for raffle prizes for his prize bank which they can draw from for any events requiring a raffle. Should you have any odd bottles, boxes of chocolates or daft items of any sort please could you leave them in the clubhouse marked for his attention.
We are looking for volunteers – anyone with a couple of hours to spare on Sunday the 2nd of April to come along to the clubhouse at 10.30 onwards. We have a number of small maintenance jobs around the carpark and clubhouse that we would like to tackle and would like to get as much help as possible – ladies and gents.
As part of our marketing exercise to promote the club, we are planning to drop leaflets through the door of every house in Skelmorlie, Wemyss Bay and Inverkip. As you can imagine this is a massive undertaking and again anyone willing to help with this would be made most welcome. We are hoping to carry this out w/c the 12th April (to latch onto the after effects of Masters Fever). The Skelmorlie Explorer Scouts are hoping to help in Skelmorlie, Wemyss Bay is well covered but Inverkip is looking for some volunteers. So if you fancy a wee bit of exercise and can even cover your street could you get in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Available at only £10 – why not take out membership for your non-playing husband, wife, partner. They can then sign in friends and family and will get added to the emailing list for notification of future events.
If you have paid your subscription for 2017, and have not already collected your bag tag sticker you can do so by asking the bar staff at the club house who will be happy to pass it to you. If you have a damaged or lost tag a replacement can be provided if necessary.
With the season now getting started please have a look on the website for future competitions. The Ladies / Gents & Junior fixtures are all easily downloaded and printed in calendar form.
ALEC DILLON MEMBERS & GUEST DAY
This popular event is being held on Sunday the 23rd of April. This is open to both Ladies and Gents and the sign up sheet is in the Lobby.
We can all do a wee bit to help Skelmorlie Golf Club prosper so please get in touch if you have any ideas for the Club.
Hope to see you on the course.
